Working With the Eight Phases of the Moon

By Luna Castellanos · Published Aug 19, 2026 · 7 min read

The Moon takes about 29.5 days to move from one new moon to the next, cycling through eight recognisable phases along the way. Long before calendars, that cycle was how people tracked time — and it still works well as a personal rhythm for starting things, building on them, and letting them go.

You do not need to believe the Moon exerts a mystical pull to get value from this. The cycle is a reliable, visible external prompt to check in with yourself a couple of times a month.
